When is the right time to put your old website out of its misery?
This is a tough question. When do you stop adding bits, moving bits, doing short term fixes, small refreshes and all other kinds of temporary “keep my site” alive manoeuvres before it’s time to surrender, bite the bullet and come up with something new and impressive? Well I don’t rightly know, but I do know that the time has arrived for me.
Now don’t get me wrong, I really liked my old site, it served me well. But like a favourite shirt, it had reached a stage where it should never be worn in public (or private), even though I think it is still cool and very stylish. Often it takes a good friend to sit us down and have “the talk”. A friend did that with me, broke the news that it was time to let my old site go, and enjoy the thrill and exhilaration of a new, sleeker and sexier digital presence.
As you can tell from the sleek look of my new Business Bullet template, the new website has arrived and I’m pretty darn proud I have to say. Yep, it was a HUGE project. Yes, I almost broke everyone involved, but in reality, we all rallied around the virtual flagpole and worked together to turn my vision into this site.
A lot of people have been involved in this humungous project – and you can see a list of them if you visit this BLOG POST. Great to use the same web developer that I have used for many years, doing such an extraordinary job – well done to the PRECEDENCE team.

I HAVE A MAN CRUSH AND I’M NOT AFRAID TO TALK ABOUT IT (WELL I’M A LITTLE AFRAID)
I had been a fan of Seth Godin for many years, but the love was fading, I was getting distracted by book after book (yeah I know), and I started to sense a little trouble in paradise. Then I had the great fortune to spend a day with Seth in Sydney, and it is official, the bromance is back on (I am pretty sure it is one sided). So what did I learn from my day with Seth? WHEN IT COMES TO CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS ARE YOU A BIG CRY BABY?
Recently I had the misfortune of sitting through a very awkward situation where a lovely old couple had the audacity to make a justified complaint at a restaurant. The waiter (who turned out to be the owner) really was a big cry baby. I have seen people react to customer complaints like this way too often. They go on the attack as opposed to dealing with it in a more mature and responsible way. So next time you make a complaint and the business owner doesn’t handle it as well as they should – send them this article. CLICK HERE TO READ MY ADVICE FOR CRY BABY BUSINESS OWNERS.
THE ART OF STORYTELLING – SYDNEY, THIS SATURDAY
A last minute reminder – Nick Bowditch and I are running our first “Art of Storytelling” workshop this Saturday. It is going to be a pretty cool kind of day, a great group of people are coming along and we have broken the day into four sections – the importance of storytelling, storytelling and the written word, storytelling and the spoken word and storytelling and the digital word. I can’t wait – very excited – and so is Nick (and he has just started working with Twitter – so more Social Media advice here). If you are free, come along – FOR MORE DETAILS CLICK HERE.
IT HAS TO BE TIME FOR SOME FUNNY BUSINESS RIGHT?
For fans of Tim Reid’s hugely popular podcast, “Small Business Big Marketing“, here is the 11th installment of our almost hugely popular “FUNNY BUSINESS”. Now we record an episode of FUNNY BUSINESS roughly every month, and apart from having way too much fun, we talk about the big things in the world of small business. If you haven’t listened to a podcast before, you really should. They are a great way to sit back and listen and perhaps learn a thing or two to help you take your business to the next level.
