The Business Bullet — By Andrew Griffiths

Is your life full of MOJO or NOJO?

Is your life full of MOJO or NOJO?

I have just finished reading an excellent book called “MOJO – how to get it, how to keep it and how to get it back if you lose it” by Marshall Goldsmith. As you would expect, it got me thinking about MOJO and how important it is in our life and our business.

So what exactly is MOJO? I think it is that feeling we get when everything feels right, we are confident, fired up, positive and best of all, happy and content. This is the MOJO zone and most of us would like to spend more time living in it. But of course, as with all things in the Universe, MOJO has an opposite and ugly cousin called NOJO, the place of negativity, fear and unhappiness.

The more we can identify tasks, situations and people that activate our MOJO the more we will gravitate towards them. But how often do we stop and ask ourselves if a particular task, situation or person fires up our MOJO or alternatively, fires up our NOJO? And even more importantly, how do we identify MOJO as opposed to NOJO?

So I would like to send you a challenge with my Bullet this week and ask you to take note of the things that fire up your MOJO. At the same time, take note of people, tasks or situations that are full of NOJO.

The following list identifies MOJO attitude versus NOJO attitude:

  • MOJO – Take responsibility, NOJO – play the victim
  • MOJO – Move forward, NOJO – hop on the same spot
  • MOJO – Run the extra mile, NOJO – satisfied with the bare minimum
  • MOJO – Love doing it, NOJO – feel obligated to do it
  • MOJO – Appreciate opportunities, NOJO – tolerate requirements
  • MOJO – Make the best of it, NOJO – endure it
  • MOJO – Inspirational, NOJO – painful to be around
  • MOJO – Grateful, NOJO – resentful
  • MOJO – Curious, NOJO – uninterested
  • MOJO – Caring, NOJO – indifferent
  • MOJO – Zest for life, NOJO – living in a trance
  • MOJO – Awake, NOJO – asleep

At the end of the day, MOJO is all about attitude and those people who are full of MOJO for life, have a truly sensational attitude. If you want to give your MOJO a boost, identifying when yours is working or others isn’t, is the perfect place to start. Good luck.

Cheers,

Andrew
