What statements are you making in your business (and in your life)?
What statement are you making in your business (and in your life)?
Making a big, bold statement is a very powerful way to drive a business forward. It can give you direction, it can give you reason and it can unite your team to achieve the one common goal. But sadly most businesses don’t make big, bold statements and I often wonder why?
So what is a big, bold statement? Well it is making a statement that leads to making a commitment to achieve a specific outcome. For example:
We are the biggest
We are sell more than anyone else
We are be the best
We are the oldest
We are the most desired place to work
We help as many people in need as we can
We are the most innovative business in our field
We have the best customer service in this city
We guarantee every single product we sell – 100%.
We are the leaders and every competitor aspires to be like us
I have seen the power of these statements work time and time again and I have several personal examples that I would like to share.
Many years ago I made the statement and commitment that I was going to be the youngest Master SCUBA Instructor in Australia – and I achieved it. It wasn’t easy and I encountered a lot of hurdles, but I had my big, audacious goal and nothing was going to get in my way. Another bold statement that I made was that I decided I was going to become the most successful business author in Australia. I am very proud to say that I have achieved that. My next publishing goal is to sell 100,000 copies of my latest book, the ME MYTH, and I am well on the way to achieving this goal.
Now I am not boasting about these achievements, I am simply trying to show how they can work to drive you forward and to achieve big things. There is a lot of power in making a strong commitment to yourself and when you make it public, it starts a movement to achieve it. In fact subconsciously a lot of people buy into this commitment. The most successful entrepreneurs are all very good at making these claims – and achieving them.
Of course what we are really doing is a setting a goal, but it the most significant of goals that becomes a power statement which is impossible to be ignored. It sends a very positive message to your customers as well and it shows a real strength within the business. Of course hollow statements and no commitment to achieving them shows a weak, ineffectual and generally poor business.
SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOF
The key here is to be prepared to make a big, bold statement about your business and your life. In doing this you are much more likely to make it happen. So, figure out what your commitment is, make a statement that will help you achieve it and climb onto your roof and scream it out loud.
Have an exceptional week in your business and in your life. Remember, attitude is everything. It comes first then it is followed by success, joy, satisfaction and money.
