How to get more business, for free.

The most simple way to get more business is absolutely free – all you have to do is ask.

I often get asked the question “how can I get more business today?” Now in the past few months I have noticed that I get asked this question a lot more often, clearly a sign of the times at hand. If you want more business right now, you have to learn to ask for it. Simple as that.

Now I’m not saying that you should simply put it out there to the universe that you want more business (mind you I do believe that there is a lot of merit in this) but more tangibly, you need to ask everyone who may be in your sphere of influence for more business.

The bush telegraph is a wonderful device. If you want to tell a thousand people about your business you can put an advertisement in the newspaper, or on the television, but you could also tell ten people who may tell then others who may tell ten others. Word of mouth marketing is without doubt the most powerful, cost effective and easy tool to grow any business in the world and best of all, from my experience people really do want to help small businesses, like yours and mine, to succeed.

Many people stumble when it comes to figuring out how to ask for more customers. There is almost a sense of embarrassment in asking for help to attract new business but we all need to get past that straight away.

I suggest that you enlist the services of everyone you know to help drive people to your business. But be specific – tell your connections that you are really keen to grow your business and that you are looking for more customers every single day. Be specific about what you are selling, when you want more customers (for example if you are quiet on Tuesdays tell them you need help growing your Tuesday business).

Ask and people will help – I guarantee it.

So which people do you ask for help? Well that’s easy – your family, your friends, their friends, your neighbours (both at home and at work), your suppliers, your business networks, your professional advisors (accountant, lawyer etc) and of course your existing customers.

Any business that learns to ask for help to attract new customers will get that help. But you can’t do it once. You have to make it part of your daily thought process. So go forth and ask every single person you know to send you more customers right now.
