BUSINESS BULLET 18 – Develop powerful personal patterns for business success.
Develop powerful personal patterns for business success.
For many years I used to turn up at my business in the wee hours of the morning and literally throw myself into the seemingly endless pile of work that didn’t seem to get any smaller, no matter how many hours I worked. I had plans and dreams, but I spent so much time “doing” that I started to always feel that my business was in control of me, not the other way around.
During a very dramatic change of life, I started to rethink my working patterns. I decided to spend my first thoughts of the day contemplating what the day ahead had in store for me and how I would make it work for me. In other words I took control of my day. I would visualise my appointments and what I would like to achieve in each interaction. I would pick several key words that were to become my theme for the day and I would write them at the top of my daily work sheet so that I would be reminded of them continuously throughout the day.
When planning my schedule I would make a point of allocating time just for me, to do whatever it was I wanted to do. Perhaps catch up with a friend for a coffee, or go to the gym or even take a moment out to read a magazine that had been sitting on my desk for weeks. Sometimes I would curl up and have a snooze in my office.
It’s funny but when you plan out your day, visualise how it is going to pan out, prepare mentally for everything ahead, most things go pretty well according to plan.
This getting into the right state of mind at the start of each day has had a very dramatic affect on my life. It enables me to not only get a lot done but also to enjoy my working days so much more. I get up looking forward to the day ahead because I know what is in store, and what I will make of it. The more you do this type of visual planning the better you get at it. Now I do it in the shower and as soon as I get out to dry off I scrawl my notes.
Developing positive personal patterns is a formidable tool in the successful business owners toolbox. These patterns give you the strength to deal with whatever the world may throw your way. They make you feel and believe that you are in charge of your business, not the other way around, which is exactly the way it should be.
