The Business Bullet — By Andrew Griffiths

8 Jan 2014

Start talking to your customers today, don’t wait for things to get back to normal.

Well 2014 has started and it’s always a nice time to ease back into work after taking a break (well I sure hope you managed to get a break). I think that the best piece of advice I can offer for getting the year off in the right way is to start communicating with your customers right now, not months down the line when “things” get back to normal.

It’s easy to wait for the school holidays to end, for the Australia Day holiday, for the Easter break, the ANZAC holiday etc etc………..before you know it, May is here and you have missed out on four months of good communication time. There is a lot we can be asking our customers and a lot we can be sharing with them:

  • Ask them what their plans are for the year (and how you fit into their plans?)
  • Ask them how your business could be of more service to them (what other products or services could you be offering?)
  • Ask them for advice on anything that they think you could be doing better (we all like to be asked our opinion, so ask them theirs)
  • Share what your plans for the year may be (get excited about the year ahead, if you’ve got nothing to share, you’ve got a problem)
  • Update your blog, newsletters, website, noticeboard – everything
  • Last but not least, thank them for supporting your business – you can never do this enough

I am a firm believer that the way you start the year is vitally important to set the scene for how the year will play out. So start it well. Love those customers as much as you can, challenge yourself, learn new things, get out of your “denial zone”, reach down and pull others up and have a whole lot of fun doing it.

I wish you a sensational 2014 in every way.
