Most small business owners are that busy doing their day to day work that they don’t have any time or energy to invest in building their business. I have certainly been in this place I spent many years in constant overwhelm, spinning plates but never really going anywhere.
In this headspace you can’t grow a business, all you can do is exist. Sure, you may increase revenue, but it takes a lot more to build a business than increased revenue. In fact in many instances, more money leads to more issues.
Smart business owners make specific time each week to grow their business. This time needs to be quality time not 2am in the morning when everything else is done and you are exhausted.
Growing your business should be treated as a priority and as such, it should be given some of your best thinking and most creative time to make this happen. Some people I know allocate one morning a week, away from the business, to work on everything to do with growing the business. This often includes planning, marketing, looking at financial figures, product development and customer service related issues.
When I get asked for advice by small business owners on how to grow their business, I make a point of emphasizing that unless they have quality time to spend working on the business it will all be a waste of time. Even the most amazing ideas are simply a waste of time if they donĂt get actioned.
It takes discipline to make this time but the pay off is huge. Find time each week,
make it when you are productive and creative and don’t let anything get in the way
of this activity. Your future may depend on it.
